Agree, the first time for any session is great for a meet-and-greet and toss around ideas to shape the agenda for the next few months. By the way, I was impressed how many people came!
Agreed -- I think that part of the thinking behind the first meeting was that it would be a get-to-know-ya kind of thing ... unfortunately, that forced Robert to abbreviate his presentation.
I think people will get more out of the developers hours if they also use the online discussion both before and after. Otherwise there won't be time for a good discussion. Like wise - an maybe it goes without saying the going around the room, with introductions, 30 second elevator speech, interesting as they are was OK for the first meeting but I'd prefer it be moved to the networking hour going forward, to make time for more discussion of the topics.
Robert or whoever is helping lead the effort, why don't one of you guys start a discussion about future topics for developers hour? Keep it in one place we have done with the meetings topic in the meetings group. it would be easier than having to sort through all the comments on the wall and people could comment on specific topics instead of piece meal.
Another idea for a topic: Joomla hosting This could touch on the differences between Linux/Windows hosting, and what to look for when evaluating hosting options.
I think it would be great to try to present benchmarks for server requirements in terms of traffic and concurrent users. e.g. how much server oompf do you need if you plan to grow your Joomla site to X size?
In terms of the "default" Joomla extensions, I'd prefer to keep the focus on system-level extensions that tie more into the ongoing administration/management of Joomla sites than extensions which add front-end features or functionality. In other words, focus on the day-to-day, bread-and-butter tasks like backup, security, backend file access, etc.
Referring to Justin's previous post . . . I think the idea is "What extensions do you recommend as part of every Joomla implementation, and what is your thinking on that?"
How about kicking off with "default Joomla extensions"? That would give us something very concrete to sink our teeth into right off the bat . . . and we can the ball rolling concurrently on teeing up the other topics as well . . .
