My Joomla! blog

Thoughts on my Joomla! development projects.

At first it seems impossible, then it's second nature. Standard cycle of education, right?

Well, I've been working with Joomla! for a solid year now and have gotten to the point where I genuinely look forward to each project for the learning and problem solving opportunities they bring and the satisfaction of adding another capability to my web developer arsenal.  At first, I cowered at the multitude of php and css files in my the Joomla! install. Two sites later, I didn't give them a second thought. Then, I got all worked up about doing an e-commerce site by implementing virtuemart into Joomla! Again and again, the dragons turn into tamed creatures with some trial and error, hard work and lots of help from various forums.

Now, it appears my next challenge is before me. A potential client has asked about the feasibility of creating a network of regional sites (driven by joomla, of course) and managing the "multi-site" at a global level.  At first, we would build a successful site driven by a specific region, let's say, Wilmette, and then we'd create a site copy for the people of Oak Park, and then Naperville, and so on. perhaps driven by subdomains, like craigslist.

I've been looking around for Joomla people investigating a similar possibility and I may have found one in Jentla.com.  I'll be doing some due diligence in the coming week but I hope to report my findings here for the benefit of my fellow Joomla developers.

Hey all,

I mentioned this idea of creating a multi-site a whiiiile back and I finally landed the client this week!

I'm excited about the opportunity of using something to coordinate multiple joomla installs. I'll post more as it develops.
