Hello!

I've started working with a successful Chicago-based design agency that has a number of Web site clients running Joomla. I've been helping them out with some of their sites, and we're getting to the point where a deeper level of customization is required than I'm able to provide.

Right now, we have a small job that involves adjusting an extension to support Joomla content plugins in its output. I would think that this is something that should be pretty simple for the right developer. This work could serve as a trial run for potential future work as this agency builds out Joomla-based service offerings requiring more customizations than is supported in Joomla's core features and off-the-shelf extensions.

FYI, the site for the specific work mentioned above is running Joomla 1.5.

If you are interested in getting more information, please contact me by sending e-mail to justin@prototaph.com. Thanks for your attention!

Hello Joe,

Sorry I have been off on other big projects for a bit. It looks like you are doing well with the Chicago community and your CMS Expo. Great work.

I agree with you about the RFP idea. It would be really great for you the association to host a template that people can complete and have sent to companies to big on there project. (to be honest I have this direct need right now).

How can I help?

I have two ideas I would like to develop -- don't know if the place to do this is through this forum or to spin off a separate one.

(1) The RFP Problem -- I think it would be constructive if we could create a set of recommendations, to which the whole community contributes, about the RIGHT way to create an RFP. We find that many projects are circulated as an RFP that is in a format that does not lead to the client getting the best results. I think the entire community (site developers *and* clients) would benefit from the adoption of some better practices, in short, to get the clients to solicit high-value consultative services and not just think of a website as something that you buy "by the pound."

(2) Project Management and Phasing -- this is a related issue. It would benefit us all if clients recognized that high quality Joomla site development comes about through a fairly formal development process, similar to any IT project, and they should get used to concepts like "requirements," "prototype," "testing," etc.

Look forward to your thoughts . . . .
